The Pittsburgh Steelers has a superfan worldwide fanbase for an NFL Football Team. For the last 21 years, the team has played out of Heinz Field which was named after the Heinz Kraft Company.
As of next summer, that will all change as Acrisure, a top 10 global insurance brokerage firm out of Michigan purchased the naming rights for 15 years.
Heinz purchased the naming rights for $57 million and extended for 1 more year during the 2021 football season.
Fans on social media are enraged over the name change. Fan responses range from the naming right not being purchased by a Pittsburgh company to not being able to pronounce it.
A number of fans on twitter say that they will refuse to call the stadium by its new name and that it’ll always be Heinz Field.
Fans were suggesting Pittsburgh-based companies such as UPMC, Giant Eagle, Sheetz, Dick’s amongst others should have purchased the name!
Time will tell, how the Rooney family who owns the Pittsburgh Steelers will handle this PR nightmare.
At last, Steeler fans still have The Terrible Towel!
